Search any niche, rank local businesses by reviews and compare them side by side
Choosing a local business usually means opening ten tabs and guessing. Niche Business Search & Compare is planned to do the work in one place: pick a niche and an area, see businesses ranked by rating, review volume and recent trend, and compare up to five side by side. The ranking method is public, and businesses cannot pay to move up.

What we are planning
Search by niche and area
Choose a category such as dentists, plumbers or wedding photographers, then type a city or neighborhood with autocomplete suggestions.
Ranking that weighs more than stars
A 4.9 from 12 reviews is not the same as a 4.7 from 800. Results are ranked using rating, review volume and recent trend together, and the method is explained on a visible page.
Filters that update instantly
Filter by minimum rating, minimum number of reviews, rating trend (improving, stable or declining), open now, price level and distance from a point you choose.
Compare up to 5 side by side
Select up to five businesses and see rating, review count, trend and address next to each other, with a link to the source listing.
Deep report when you need it
Buy a report for the businesses you shortlisted: rating trend over time, recurring praise and complaint themes, and a side-by-side summary, delivered instantly and available to download.
Clearly separated sponsored content
Rankings cannot be bought. Any sponsored or affiliate item is labeled and kept apart from organic results.
How the ranking works
Review sites often sort by average rating, which rewards businesses with a handful of friendly reviews. Niche Business Search & Compare uses the same review analysis behind LocalGap's competitor reports to weigh three things together.
- Rating: the average star rating.
- Review volume: how many reviews back that rating up, because more reviews make an average more reliable.
- Recent trend: whether the rating over recent months is improving, stable or declining, because a business can change hands, staff or quality.
How this differs from searching Google Maps
Google Maps is the right place to find what is nearby. It is not designed to compare a shortlist on the same measures. Niche Business Search & Compare starts where Maps leaves off: it focuses on how businesses compare once you have the list.
Pages for every niche and area
Each niche and area combination is planned to have its own crawlable page with a unique title and description, so people searching for a type of business in a city can find a clear, ranked overview.
How we keep it fair
LocalGap provides information only. It does not endorse, verify or guarantee any business, and a disclaimer says so on results and reports. Businesses cannot pay to change their ranking, and the service earns money from users who buy reports, from clearly labeled affiliate links and from ads, never from business listings. Required data attributions are shown with results.

Frequently asked questions
Can a business pay to rank higher?
No. Rankings are based on rating, review volume and recent trend. Sponsored and affiliate items are labeled and kept separate from organic results.
Where does the business data come from?
From Google business listings, retrieved through a data provider. Required attributions are shown with results.
Is it free to use?
The plan is a free daily limit of searches without an account. Deep reports and higher limits are paid, and an account is needed to buy and to see your purchase history.
Does LocalGap recommend or verify these businesses?
No. It provides information to help you compare. It does not endorse, verify or guarantee any business or the services it provides.
How is this different from LocalGap Competitor Analysis?
Competitor Analysis is for owners who want to understand their own competitors, starting from their own Google Business link. Niche Business Search & Compare is for anyone who wants to search a niche in an area and compare businesses.
When will it launch?
